Biography

John Stotts was born in 1765/6 in Fincastle County VA He was the son of Andrew Stotts and his wife Mary.

In 1797 John Stotts was identified on a deed where he was granted property on Reed Creek in Wythe Co., Virginia from his parents Andrew and Mary Stotts.

Age calculations. John Stotts' was listed in the Montgomery CO VA Militia in 1781 so so he would have had to be at least 16 years old at that time so he was born before 1765. In the 1810 Census John was > 26 and < 44. This would mean he would have been born between 1766 and 1784. In the 1820 Census John was listed as >45 or born before 1775 . In the 1830 Census John was listed as >60 < 69. This would me he was born between 1761 and 1770. So he would have likely been born around 1765/66.

Probate Deed Feb. 1846 Identifies Family Members Pulaski County, Kentucky, Town of Somerset Deed Book 12 662, 663, 664 This indenture of bargained sale and conveyance made and entered into this 16th day of February 1846 Between Andrew Stots -Robert Harrison and Emily his wife late Emily Stots - Joseph Ingram and Sarah his wife, late Sarah Stotts - Charles ingram and Louisa his wife late Louisa Stotts - Jesse McAninoh and Jane his wife late Jane Stotts - William Stotts and Theresa Stotts, heirs at law and legal representatives of John Stotts deceased by Walker W. Harley, John Crawford and Andrew James comissioners of the Pulaski County Court (appointed by an order of said court at their January term last past for the purpose of making the convey-ance) of the first part and Cyrenius Wait of Pulaski County, Ky. of the second part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of a Title Bond from said John Stotts to Cheyne date 14th Feb. 1828. Assigned by sd Archibald Cheyne to Stephen W. Cheyne on the 14th day of April 1832 and by Stephen W. Cheyne to Cyrenius Wait the 29th of Sept 1835. ALSO another Title Bond from said John Stotts to Cyrenius Wait dated the 22nd day of May 1835 And the several matters and things in said title Bond recited and also in consideration ot the matters and things recited and set fourth in the orders of the Pulaski County Court in this behalf of said party of the first part have bargained sold and by these presents do grant alien convey and confirm unto the said Cyrenius Wait his heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land containing by patent 200 acres more or less lying and being in the County of Pulaski and State of Kentucky on the waters of Fishing Creek and Bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING on two black oaks a corner of George Allcorn's thence N75 W38 poles to a Black Oak and Dogwood thence N9 W195 poles to a maple and polar thence 226 poles to two Dogwoods John Cox's corner thence S17 W5 poles to two post oaks John Cowan's corner thence S54 E74 poles to an Elm S56 W 138 poles two Black Gums thence S28 W1OO poles to two Dogwoods on George Allcorn's line thence West 46 poles to the beginning. The said Cyrenius Wait his heirs or assigns. To Have and to Hold the sd tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances forever. And the said party of the first part for themselves their heirs & hereby covenant and agree to warrant and forever defend the title to the said tract or parcel of land unto the said Cyrenius Wait his heirs or assigns forever against the claim or claims of all and every person or per-sons whomsoever binding by this warranty only the assets and Estate of the said John Stotts dec'd in the hands of his said heirs at law and legal representatives from him to them deceased.
