Biography

Private Emanuel Sunday served in the United States Civil War.

Emanuel was born about 1836. He was the son of David Sunday and Elizabeth Bohn.^[1]

His father died when he was nine years old,^[2] and his mother married Christopher Stahl, a German immigrant, and they lived in Huron county, Ohio.^[1]

He married Helen L Fuller on 9 November 1858 in Allen county, Indiana.^[3] They had the following known children:

1. John C Sunday (b. abt. 1860)
2. Sarah E Sunday (b. abt. 1862)
3. (possibly) Anna Etta Sunday (b. abt 1866)
4. Barbara E Sunday (b. abt 1867)
5. Esther F Sunday (b. abt 1869)

Emanuel registered for the draft in Emerald, Paulding Ohio on 1 July 1863 along with his brothers Daniel and John. Interestingly, although the three of them were married at this time, they were all marked on the registration as "single".^[4]

Two days later, he mustered into Company "E" of the 86th Ohio Infantry. He served as a Private until he mustered out at Camp Cleveland, Ohio on 10 February 1864.^[5]

He returned to Carryall, Paulding county, Ohio, where he was working at a furnace. His brother John lived nearby and also worked at the furnace.^[6]

His death record has not been located, but his widow applied for a pension on 30 June 1879.^[7]
