Biography

Johann was born about 1781. This date is estimated from his age at marriage. He is supposed to be from "Grillbaum" which may be the village of Kriebaum, Bohemia, now Vitěšovice, Czech Republic. His mother was from Kalsching, Bohemia, now Chvalšiny, Czech Republic, and Kriebaum is nearby and was serviced by the catholic parish of Kalsching. However, the church registers of that parish were destroyed by fire in 1808 and were only recreated in 1810 from information in the land and seigniorial registers and interviews with older parishioners.^[1] Neither his birth nor the marriage of his parents are recorded. He married Rosa Dwořak, 26 Nov 1822 in Rudolfstadt, Bohemia, now Rudolfov, Czech Republic.^[2]
