Biography

Luke Taylor was born on 11 Oct 1860 at West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England. He was the son of Thomas Taylor and Emma Walmsley.[1]

In the 1861 census Luke was age 0 living at West Bromwich with his father Thomas Taylor (29), mother Emma Taylor (28), brothers Edward Taylor (5), William Taylor (3).[2]

In the 1871 census Luke was age 10 living at West Bromwich with his father Thomas Taylor (44), mother Emma Taylor (41), brothers Edward Taylor (15), William Taylor (13), Thomas Taylor (2), sister Mary Taylor (5). Also a lodger Samuel Walmsley (21) who was Emma's cousin.[3]

In the 1881 census Luke was age 20 living at Beale St, West Bromwich with his father Thomas Taylor (53), mother Emma Taylor (49), brother Thomas Taylor (12), sister Mary Taylor (15). Occupation: Coal Miner.[4]

Luke Taylor married Elizabeth Ann Harris on 11 July 1881 at All Saints Street, West Bromwich.[5] They had at least 13 children.

In the 1891 census Luke was age 32 living at West Bromwich with his wife Elizabeth A Taylor (31), daughters Ellen Taylor (10), Mary Ann Taylor (6), Eliza Taylor (6), Elizabeth Taylor (2). Occupation: Coal Miner.[6]

In the 1901 census Luke was age 41 living at West Bromwich with his wife Elizabeth Ann Taylor (40), daughters Marie Ann Taylor (16), Lizzie Taylor (11), Clara Taylor (6), May Taylor (5), Edie Taylor (3), Lily Rose Taylor (2), Ethel May Taylor (0), son John Thomas Taylor (9). Occupation: Navvy (Labourer).[7]

Luke's wife Elizabeth died in 1909.

In the 1911 census Luke was age 62? living at West Bromwich as a lodger in the household of Charles Evans. Occupation: Collier Below Ground Hewer.[8]

Luke Taylor died in 1944 age 83 at West Bromwich.[9] He was buried on 21 Mar 1944 at Heath Lane Cemetery, West Bromwich.[10]
