Elijah was born May 30, 1889. He was the son of Elijah Terry the 2nd and Jane ( Johnson ) Terry. He married Mary Elizabeth Byrd. He passed away from pulmonary tuberculosis on Monday, May 29, 1950 at the Veterans Hospital at Oteen in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina.

Elijah Terry, aged 60, died Monday, June [May] 29, in the Veterans Hospital in Oteen, N. C. He was well known here and had many friends. He is survived by his widow; one brother, Squire Luther Terry; two half-brothers, Rube and Sam Johnson; one sister, Lucinda Terry, of Indiana, and a number of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Fairview church with Rev. Albert Chitwood officiating. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery where the American Legion will participate.
