John Teskey was born in County Limerick in 1769 to Adam Teskey and Catherine Piper in Rathkeale. He was baptized on 3 Sep 1769.
In 1796, John married Anne Vale in Rathkeale. They had at least seven children, all boys.
In 1823, John and Anne's was the first Teskey family to immigrate to North America. They sailed from Ireland on the ship Hebe as part of the Peter Robinson Settlers group. In 1825, the Teskey family of 9 people was enumerated at Sherrington, Quebec, in the Canadian census.
settled southwest of Ottawa in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Upper Canada (Ontario). The woolen mill and stone homes built by their sons Robert, Joseph, and Albert are still standing today, although the mill was destroyed by fire in the 1950s.
John and Anne are buried adjacent to one another in the Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery. In 1854, John passed away in Appleton (aka Teskeyville), Canada West (Ontario). In 1856, Anne passed away. His portion of the headstone reads: "John Teskey, Senr, of Ramsay, who departed this life March 26th 1854, Aged 86."
In 2000, it was estimated that over 1000 descendants in North America are descended from John and Anne's family, the most for any Teskey.
