Zaccheus was a Friend (Quaker)

Zaccheus Test was born 23 Sep 1762 in Salem County, New Jersey.[1] He was probably named after his maternal grandfather Zacheus Dunn.

On 17 Jan 1783 he married Rebecca Davis (b. 22 Sep 1758), daughter of Gabriel Davis and Sarah Ballinger.[2] The family settled near Woodbury, Gloucester Co., Debtford Township, New Jersey where he farmed raised a family [3]:

1. Benjamin b. 7 Nov 1783 2. Isaac Ballinger b. 8 Jun 1787 3. Samuel b. 3 Jan 1791 4. Rebecca b. 26 Ap 1796 [4]

Rebecca Davis died in April of 1798. [6] In August of 1800 Zaccheus Test married Hannah Reeves. [7] Their children are:

1. Joseph Reeves b. 28 Aug 1801 [8] 2. Elizabeth R. b. 17 Aug 1805 3. Mary b. 8 Jul 1808 4. Zaccheus b. 18 Dec 1809 5. Lydia b. 18 Apr 1812 6. Edith b. 19 Jul 1815 [9}

In 1803 the family immigrated to Ohio.[10] They purchased and settled on section 23 of Butler Township in Columbiana County.[11] This section is located about one mile south of the present town of Salem, Ohio. By 1805 the Quakers in the area were numerous enough for The Salem Meeting to become a new monthly meeting.

Zaccheus Test was the first clerk of this meeting.[12] He was one of the recognized ministers of the meeting.[13]
