Katharina, daughter of Gallus Tischhauser and Katharina Indermaur, was born in Sevelen, current-day St. Gallen, Switzerland on 19 October 1841 and christened the day after in the local Reformed church.
After a nearly three months journey, Katharina arrived at the port of New Orleans on 2 June 1845 aboard the 'Columbia' as part of the first 'group' migration from the village of Sevelen. She travelled with her parents and siblings Mathias, Gallus, Johannes, Anna, Gabriel, Hans Peter, Andreas and Ursula.[1]In 1850, she was living in Tete Des Morts township, Jackson county, Iowa and is enumerated with her mother Katharina, brothers John, Gabriel, Peter and Andrew as well as sister Josephine [Ursula].[2]
In 1860, she lived in Jefferson Township, Dubuque, Iowa and was enumerated with her mother Catherine, and siblings Andreas and Ursula. [3]
