Gallus, son of Mathias Tischhauser and Anna Seifert, was christened in the Reformed church in Sevelen, current-day St. Gallen, Switzerland on 12 November 1796. His godparents were Christian Hagmann, Christian Litscher, Anna Giger and Ursula Schlegel.[1]
Aged 24, he married Katharina Indermaur in the Reformed church in Sevelen on 6 February 1821. Together, they had five daughters and six sons.
After a nearly three months journey, Gallus arrived at the port of New Orleans on 2 June 1845 aboard the 'Columbia' as part of the first 'group' migration from the village of Sevelen. He travelled with his wife Katharina, and children Johannes, Anna, Gabriel, Peter, Andreas, Ursula and Katharina. Also in the group were sons Gallus and Mathias.[2]
Gallus was not listed with his family on the 1850 census suggesting he had died before the date of the census. It is likely that Gallus died sometime between 2 June 1845 and 9 September 1850.
