This profile is part of the Tonkin Name Study.

Doris was born in 1899. She is the daughter of John Tonking and Hannah Dutton. [1]

She married John Crompton in 1921 in Adelong, New South Wales. [2]

An extremely pretty wedding took place at St. Paul's Church of England, Adelong, on 21st ult, when Rev. J. M. Thomas joined in the holy bonds of matrimony Doris, youngest daughter of the late Mr. J. Tonking and Mrs. Tonking, of Bleak House, Adelong, and John Edward Crompton, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Crompton, of "Fairfield," Adelong. The service was fully choral, the church being prettily decorated by friends of the bride. The bride wore a dainty dress of chiffon taffeta and chantilly lace, tastefully embroidered in seed-pearls, with wreath and veil arranged mob cap fashion. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white roses, carnations and asparagus fern. Miss Emily Crompton (sister of the bridegroom) acted a bridesmaid, and was attired in mauve crepe-de-chene and black picture hat. During the ceremony Mr. H. Hodson, of Sydney, sang "Because." After the ceremony, a sumptuous wedding feast was partaken of at St. Paul's Parish Hall, where the customary toasts were proposed. The young couple afterwards left by car, en route for the metropolis, the bride travelling in brown crepe-de-chene, embroidered in saxe blue, with hat en suite. [3]

Doris passed away in 1975 [4]
