Biography

George Harold Tooke was born 10 November 1918 in Paisley, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of William Tooke and Alice Hay.

I was thinking of him early today, also, as we approach his 100th birthday tomorrow. Although we are not in these pictures, he will always be in all his extended Family's hearts. He spoke fluent Spanish in his younger days, where he met Mom and started his young Family in Colombia, teaching me how to walk; kept 496 Red Hill Road, Middletown, NJ "spiffy" (his word for looking really good) by digging out a basement or cellar by hand, building a garage "down in the valley", using a number of small tractors to create several gardens for Mom; sitting around the extended dining room table, having Sunday dinners with his growing family; or having an "icknick" (his made-up word for beer) watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs play hockey every Saturday night each winter on the corner TV in the Living Room. Years later he and Mom would move to the Halifax area, leaving their beloved home atop the hill in NJ behind. There they would live for years more, with children, and grandchildren, and then, even great-grandchildren visiting their new home, filled with love and some old treasures. While deafness loss impaired Dad's ability to hear us to some degree, he never lost his love of Family. Later today, I will raise a glass filled to the brim of life that he and Mom gave me. Thanks, Dad, for all those wonderful Memories. I love you. XO
