Biography

Kermit was born in 1928. She was the daughter of Edgar Toombs and Kermit Ward. She passed away in 1998.

Obituary: The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, February 17 or 18, 1998, page unknown: "Kermit Thomas, age 69, of Little Rock died Monday, February 16, 1998. She was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Mabelvale, Ark., to the late Edgar and Kermit Ward Toombs. She was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College. Mrs. Thomas was a much loved teacher who taught for 41 years in the Little Rock School District until her retirement in 1991, teaching Franklin Elementary, Southwest Junior High and Mabelvale High School. She was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and also taught Sunday School there for over 20 years. "She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thorp Thomas; daughters, Vicki Draper and her husband, Chuck, of Little Rock, Mauri Douglass and her husband, Lee, of North Little Rock, Debbie Boye and her husband Lee, of Chicago, Ill.; sons, Thorp Thomas and his wife, Pam, of Orlando, Fla., and Terry Thomas of Little Rock. She was known as "Mama T" by her grandchildren, Jason Hays, Mindi Draper, Keri, Jay and Sam Douglass, Bradley and Caroline Boye, Blair Thomas and Christopher Thomas; sister, Carolyn Long of Navarre, Fla. "Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this evening at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Rev. Lynn Lindsey officiating. Entombment will immediately follow at Pinecrest Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Avenue, Little Rock, Ark. 72205 or the Franklin Elementary School Library, l701 S. Harrison, Little Rock, Ark. 72204. Arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home."
