Note on the spelling of Anne Toucher Whitten's name:
Anne Toucher Whitten's name was given on her death certificate as Ann Tusher Whitten. I'm inclined to believe that this is how she spelled her name, as her mother also went by "Ann," and "Tusher" seems to have been the most popular spelling in these records, so I will refer to her as "Ann Tusher Whitten" in this profile.
The generally accepted spelling of the surname is "Toucher," however, and this is the term the Newfoundland newspapers used when reporting on her parents, as indicated in the reference section of their profiles.[1]
