Captain Ezra Towne served with 3rd Regiment, New Hampshire Militia during the American Revolution.
Ezra Town was born in 1736 and passed away in 1795 in New Ipswich, New Hampshire and is buried there. [1]
Ezra5, (Benjamin4, Joseph3, Edmund2, William1) born Apr 30, 1736, died Dec. 24, 1795. Married (1) Elizabeth --------- who died June 19, 1767. Married (2) Elizabeth Cutter, widow of Elijah Dutton. Married (3) on Mar 20, 1788 Keziah Bullard, widow of William Start. He came from Topsfield, Mass. to New Ipswich about 1759 and settled in the northeastern corner of the town. He lived there until his death which was caused by a wound inflicted by a hayhook unseen by him while sliding down a haymow in his barn. His name has been especially perpetuated in town tradition by his service in the Revolution. He was among those responding tot he call of Apr 19, 1775 and on his arrival at Cambridge he enlisted a company of sixty-five men, more than half of whom were his fellow townsmen, which under his command bore its part at Bunker Hill. After the close of his active service his military efficiency was recognized by his promotion to the rank of colonel in the state militia. Twelve children are listed. [2]
