Mike Trbovich (November 19, 1920 - June 24, 1989) was a miner and labor union activist in the United Mine Workers of America, AFL-CIO, in the 1960s and 1970s. He fought for Black Lung rights and benefits for Appalachian Coal Miners.

Mike was born in 1920 in Hecla, Pennsylvania.[1] His parents were George Trbovich and Mildred Vuchinich. They were born in Yugoslavia, a country that was broken up after a war in 1990-1992. [2]

His siblings were

  3. George Trbovich Jr (1918-2011)
  4. Walter Trbovich (1922-2006)

In 1930, he was living in his parents household in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. [3]

In 1940, he was still living in his parents household in Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania. [4]

Mike served in WWII in the US Coast Guard. [5]

In 1950, MIke was married to Rose Marie Rastovsky (1928-2021) living in Jefferson, Pennsylvania. He was working as a shuttle car operator in a coal mine. [6]

In the 1960s and 1970s, Mike was active in the United Mine Workers Union, running for president in the early 1970s. He was bitterly disappointed when he did not win. He was elected vice president as a consolation. [7]

He passed away in 1989.[8] His remains were cremated. [9]
