He married Golden Phillips (1885 - 1948[1]), daughter of Orville Deville Phillips and Kate Cornwell, on 23 Jun 1908 at Pamelia, Jefferson Co, New York.[2]They had a daughter Catherine in 1922.
Brookdale Native Dies in Watertown
Watertown — Carroll D. Tryon, 73, of 737 Cadwell St., druggist in this city for many years, died at 6 Friday evening in the Jefferson County Hospital for Chronic and Contagious Diseases, where he had be[e]n a patient since July 11. Death was due to hardening of the arteries. Mr. Tryon had been confined to his bed for two weeks prior to entering the hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 from the Northam & Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. Barber L. Waters, pastor of the First Meth[o]dist Church, officiating. Burial was made in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Tryon are a daughter, Mrs. J. Gilbert (Catherine M.) Watson, 737 Cadwell St., a grandaughter, Patricia J. Satson, and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tryon was born in Brookdale, St. Lawrence County, March 29, 1876, one of four sons of David and Melinda Tryon. When he was a year old, the family moved to South Dakota where they lived for ten years in a log cabin. They returned to Brookdale, and at the age of 12, Mr. Tryon started working for a drug store in Tupper Lake. He was graduated from Brooklyn Institute on Dec. 28, 1904, and for two years after that, was employed by a Malone drug store.
In 1906 Mr. Cadwell [sic] came to Watertown and opened his own drug store in the old Franklin Arcade, now the lobby of the Y. W. C. A. He operated this store for several years and then sold out to M. J. Balcome, pharmacist, who still operates his tore fronting on Public Square. Mr. Tryon then retired for three years due to ill health and went to Star Lake to reside. Recovering his health, he returned to Watertown and purchased the W. J. Nott Drug Store at 86 Public Square, where the Eagle Clothing Store is now located.
In 1939, he sold his drug business to Worden & Wilcox and moved to Copenhagen where, for three years, he operated a drug store. Mr. Tryon returned to Watertown and worked at Carroll’s Drug Store, Public Square, until his retirement in 1945.
Mr. Tryon married Miss Golden Phillips at Pamelia, June 23, 1908. Mrs. Tryon died in this city, May 28, 1948.
Mr. Tryon was a member of Asbury Methodist Church.[3]
