Washington was the third born child, first son, of William Tryon and Lucinda Slosson. It appears he served in the Union Army at the end of the Civil War, though given his age it must have been at the very end of the war.[1] He married Sarah A. Humphrey in 1875.
Death of Washington Tryon.
Washington Tryon, an old and respected resident of the town of Moira, passed out of this life last Friday, May 16th, 1919, aged 71 years. The funeral was held at his late home, north-west of this village, Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Pullen officiating, burial in the Moira Cemetery.
Mr. Tryon spent nearly all his life in the town in which he resided with the exception of a few years in the West. He was a successful farmer and was greatly interested in the Grange, taking an active part in the work of the local organization as long as health permitted. He was interested in the business of his town, having served as assessor for a number of years, his sound judgement of farm values making his services in this capacity of great worth. He was an upright man whose word was as good as his bond, and he will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends.
In 1875 he was married to Sarah Humphrey of Bombay, who survives him. He is also survived by one son, Clayton; a daughter, Cora; one sister, Mrs. Betheda Stowe, and one brother, W. Emmet Tryon of North Carolina.[2]
