Biography
Rube Walker is a part of US Black heritage.
Reuben Walker was born on 11 Mar 1908 in Oklahoma, son of Reuben B Walker and Ada Ray.
The 1910 Census[1] shows him at age 2 in the home of his parents in Gatesville Township, Wagoner County, Oklahoma.
His school records show his birth date of 11 Mar 1908 and his father's name in 1916,[2] 1917,[3] 1919,[4] 1920,[5] 1921,[6] and 1922.[7]
The 1930 Census[8] shows him at age 21 in the home of his parents in Morris Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. He is a laborer on the farm.
He married Rosie Lee (Smith) Rivers about 1931. Their known child:
The 1940 Census,[10] enumerated on 24 Apr 1940, shows him at age 32 with his wife, son, and four step children in Morris Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. He works at a rock quarry for the W.P.A.
His World War II Draft Registration Card,[11] signed on 16 Oct 1940, shows him living and working in in Boynton, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. He names his mother, Mrs. Ada Walker as the "person who will always know where you live." He is described as 6 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and a black complexion.
The 1950 Census[12] shows him at age 42 with his wife, (step) son, and two (step) grandchildren in Okmulgee, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. He is a handyman at an gas and oil service station.
Rube was recorded as a resident in 1985 at 815 N Muskogee Ave., Okmulgee, Oklahoma.[13]
He died on 6 Jun 1987 in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.[14] [15] Excerpted from his obituary: [16]
Rube Walker, age 79, died Saturday evening, June 6, in Okmulgee. Mr. Walker, born March 12, 1908 in Oklahoma, was a longtime resident of Okmulgee.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Walker and Cleo Walker, both of Okmulgee, and Fred Walker of Hominy; one daughter, Rosetta Williams of Okmulgee; two brothers, Walter Walker of Tulsa, and J. C. Walker of El Centro, Cal.; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren...

Regarding his given name:
While some of his school records and census records call him Reuben, his name is "Rube" on his World War II Draft Registration Card, and that is how he signed it.[11] All subsequent documents and articles use Rube.
