Biography

Florence A Wallace was born 28 Jul 1927 in Twin Oaks, Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, USA. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Collins and Corry Adrien Wallace. She had an older sister Mabel E Wallace (4).

In the late 1920s, her brother L A Wallace was born.

1930s

In 1930, Florence Wallace (2y 9m) lived on Meeting House Road in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania with her father Corry (31), mother Elizabeth (30), older sister Mabel (6), and younger brother L. Their home was valued at $4,000. Corry had been 21 at his first marriage; Elizabeth had been 19. Corry worked as a soap maker at a silk mill. [1]

In the early 1930s, her sister L. Wallace was born.

On 15 May 1934, her grandfather Corry James Wallace (68) died at S Division Street. His obituary was published in Salisbury, Maryland and included his children Willard Wallace, Thelma Mitchell, Inez Hastings, and Corry Wallace. He was buried in Parsons Cemetery, Salisbury. [2] [3]

In Apr 1935, the Wallace family lived in Upper Chichester Township. [4]

1940s

In 1940, Florence Wallace (12) lived on Meeting House Road in Boothywn, Upper Chichester Township with her father Corry (42), mother Elizabeth (40), older sister Mabel (17), younger brother L., and younger sister L. Their home was valued at $3,500. Corry worked as a bleacher in a silk mill; his 1939 salary had been $1250 in 48 weeks. [4]

1943, Florence Wallace was a sophomore at Boothwyn High School. [5]

In May 1947, Florence Wallace married Howard Lloyd Stang in Elkton, Cecil County, Maryland. [6] Howard was the son of Helen Wilson Stang and the late Arthur Stang.

On 8 Feb 1948, her daughter Helen Elizabeth Stang was born in Pennsylvania.

About 1947, her brother L Wallace married.

1950s

On 12 Apr 1950, Florence Stang (22) lived on Rodger Ave or Meetinghouse Rd in Upper Chichester with her husband Howard (24) and daughter Helen (2). Their home was not a farm and their property was less than two acres. They were white and born in Pennsylvania. Howard worked 40 hours per week in the maintenance department for a private electric company; Florence was a homemaker. [7]

In the early 1950s, Florence Stang and her husband Howard bought property and built a house in Boothwyn.

In Nov 1953, her daughter Barbara Ann Stang was born.

In 1957, her grandmother Annie Rebecca Wallace (84) died. [8]

About 1959, Florence and her husband fostered/adopted a daughter Kathy who adopted the Stang family name. Kathy was one year younger than Barbara.

1960s

On 31 Oct 1966, her father Corry A Wallace (68) died in Marion County, Florida. His last place of residence was Aston, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Aston, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. [9] [10]

In the late 1960s, their son C.A. Stang was born.

1970s

In 1972, her daughter Barbara Stang married her high school sweetheart, L L Fritz (still living) in Elkton MD. Mr Fritz is the son of C Lashelle and Nancy Bergdoll Fritz.

In 1976, her daughter Helen Stang married Alan A Dennison. Alan was born 19 Jan 1948 in New York State and the son of Dick and Gretchen Adams Dennison.

Two grandchildren were born (K's sons): W and D.

1980s

In the 1980s, four grandchildren were born (Helen's and Barbara's children): L E Fritz, R R Fritz, H Dennison, and G L Fritz.

In 1985, her mother Elizabeth Wallace (85) died. She was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. [11]

1990s

In 1992, her daughter Barbara Fritz became sick with cancer and Barbara's family moved in with her and Howard.

In Apr 1993, her daughter Barbara Fritz (39) died at her house. [12]

In the late 1990s, her son C Stang married Denise Vail. Denise was born 8 Dec 1963 in Chester and the daughter of Mr R M and Ms G J Snyder Vail.

2000s

In the 2000s, their last grandchild was born (C's daughter), H Stang.

In Feb 2007, her sister Mabel Moncaco (83) died. Mabel was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery with their parents. [13] [14]

2010s

On 24 Jun 2010, her brother-in-law William Monaco (~91) died. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery. [15]

On 14 Sep 2015, Florence A Stang (88) died from squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva at home 3879 Marsh Rd, Garnet Valley (Boothwyn). Other significant conditions at the time of her death were Alzheimer's dementia and osteoporosis. She had been born 28 Jul 1927 in Twin Oaks, Delaware County, and the daughter of Corry Wallace and Elizabeth Collins. She was the wife of Howard Stang. The informant of her death was her daughter Helen Dennison of 3011 Fairhope Rd in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware. Cremation Society of PA provided services and her ashes were kept at home until burial.

Florence A. (Wallace) Stang AGE: 88 • Garnet Valley, PA

Florence Stang, age 88, a long-time resident of Bethel Twp., passed away at home early Monday morning on September 14, 2015, in the company of her loving family, after an extended illness. She was born in a small country farmhouse in Twin Oaks, Delaware County, PA. In 1945, Florence graduated from The Upper Chichester Township High School, Boothwyn, PA. She enjoyed horseback riding and roller skating, crocheting and sewing.

Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth (Collins) and Corry Wallace; sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Bill Monaco; daughter, Barbara (Stang) Fritz; and, son-in-law, Alan Dennison. She is survived by Howard Stang, her husband for 68 years; brother and best friend, Lawrence Wallace (Twin Oaks, Aston, PA); sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Richard Reeder (Honeybrook, PA); daughter, Helen Dennison (Wilmington, DE); son, Corry Stang and wife, Denise (Wilmington, DE); son-in-law, Laurence Fritz and wife, Betsy (Perryville, MD); and, six grandchildren: Holly Stang, Heather Dennison, Caroline (Black) Duda, Lauren (Fritz) Dogan, Rachel (Fritz) Sterback, and Gregory Fritz. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Kinna, Chanel and Ruby for their kindness and care to Florence. Also, Laura, et al, from Crozer Hospice, who have been so supportive and helpful.

Interment will be private. Less than a year later (May 2016), her husband Howard died. At a joint memorial and funeral service, their ashes were buried at Mount Hope Cemetery with Florence's parents. [17]

Interment at Oxford Cemetery Oxford, PA. Barbara's Pallbearers were: Eric Fritz, Alan Dennison, Bernard Harahan, John Slauch, Dale Smith and Eugene Pienkowski.
