Joseph was born about 1789. He was the son of John Wallis and Ann Spear.
He was a baker and is also later shown as a farmer, of Wyke Regis and later of Melcombe Regis, Dorset.
He married Mary Morris on about 16 April 1808 at Wyke Regis, Dorset, England:

UK Census Event Date 1841: Living with his wife Mary, three children and two grandchildren in Waterloo Place, Melcombe Regis, Dorset, England. Aged about 50.
He died in 1842 at the age of 53.[3]

Dated 27 September 1838. Wife Mary Wallis, son James Wallis, friend Thomas Charles Williams of Wyke Regis gentleman appointed trustees and executors, to them all real and personal property upon trusts following, life interest for Mary to provide for her own maintenance and support and the support and maintenance and education of our younger children, on Mary's death on trust for sale to our children. Witnesses: John Henning, Attorney, Weymouth; William Edward Ratcliffe his clerk.

Joseph Spear Wallis is mentioned in the will of his grandmother Catherine Spear (buried 2 March 1802).
Will of Catherine Spear of Wyke Regis widow:
To my son Joseph Spear my copyhold messuage with kitchen garden and appurtenances, and my copyhold close called Bowhayes in parish of Wyke Regis to his use according to the custom of the Manor and liberty of Wyke Regis and Elwell. To my daughter Elizabeth Wallis £20 payable by weekly payments of two shillings. To my grandson Joseph Spear Wallis son of my daughter Ann £25 at 21. Household goods between son Joseph and daughter Elizabeth. Residue to said son, he and my brother Robert Gray executors.
