John Walmsley born 8 August 1812 to Elizabeth Fynney and Joseph Walmsley at Stockport, Cheshire. He emigrated to New Zealand to work as a printer for William Colenso and helped print the first Maori bibles.
Charlottte Hawke or Budge? (27) and John Walmsley (27) were married in Paihia, Bay of Islands, on 17 March 1840. [1]

Mr. John Walmsley was one of the first printers who came to New Zealand. At the time of Heke's war Mr. and Mrs. Walmsley, with their two daughters, were among the refugees who were sent to Auckland by Bishop Selwyn, in the American warship. They settled in Remuera, where they lived for many years.
On 10 February 1858 John Walmsley passed away in Remuera, Auckland, aged 45 [3]
