Jerry Washington is a part of US Black heritage.

Jerry Washington was born in March 1830 in North Carolina, United States.
Jerry Washington and Jane Washington began living together as husband and wife in about 1862, during the time of slavery, when there was no provision for people of color to be legally married. On 10 March 1866 the North Carolina General Assembly enacted a law (the Act Concerning Negroes and Persons of Color or of Mixed Blood), under which former slaves who had lived together as married couples during slavery could be "deemed to have been lawfully married . . . at the time of the commencement of such cohabitation," and were required to register their marriages. On 25 August 1866 in Wayne County, North Carolina, Jerry Washington and Jane Washington registered their marriage as having commenced "four years next preceding" the date of the law.[1]
Their children included Annie Mariah (Washington) Vick (1871 - 1952).
In the 1870 census Jerry (age 42) was the head of household in Wilson Township, Wilson, North Carolina, United States.[2]
In the 1880 census Jerry (age 52), Blacksmith, was the married head of household in Wilson, Wilson, North Carolina, United States.[3]
In the 1900 census Washington (age 70) was the married head of household in Wilson Township, Wilson, North Carolina, United States.[4]
