Biography

Barbara West, daughter of James and Anne West, was baptised on 9th August 1738 at St Mary Magdalene's Church, Wartling, Sussex.

Samuel Burchett and Barbara West, both of this parish, were married after banns on 25th July 1760 at St Mary Magdalene's Church, Wartling, Sussex. Barbara signed the marriage register with 'X'. Their witnesses were John Dan(?) and Edward Badcock.

Samuel and Barbara went on to have four children who were all baptised at St Mary the Virgin's Church, Warbleton, Sussex: Fanny 1761 (who sadly lived for only days), (Samuel) John 1764, Frances 1767 (another infant death), and William 1771.

Barbara Burchett died, age 50, and she was buried on 21st January 1787 at St Mary the Virgin's Church, Warbleton, Sussex. She was recorded here as 'Barbary - Wife of Samuel Burchett'.
