George Lewis Wetzel was born about 1767 in Province of Maryland, son of Johann Nickholaus Wetzel (~1726–>1792) and Elizabeth Bonnett (~1733–<1795).

George married Elizabeth Snook (born about 1770 in Maryland; daughter of Mathias Snook). Their daughter was Mary Catherine Wetzel (1812–1882).

In 1850, George was living in Monongalia, Virginia. ^[1]
