Laura was an African American artist and educator.

Laura Wheeler Waring was an American artist and educator, well-known for her portraitures she made during the Harlem Renaissance. She was the first Black woman to receive the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Scholarship to study art at the Louvre in Paris.^[1]

Laura Wheeler was born in 1887. She was the daughter of Mary Freeman.

In the 1900 census Laura (age 13), Student, was the daughter of Robert F Wheeler in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut.^[2]

Laura married Walter E Waring in 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.^[3]In the 1930 census Laura (age 39) was the wife of Walter E Waring at 756 North 43 Street, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.^[4]

She passed away in 1948.
