Notes
Note N52In the 1820 census for Giles County, TN, Elisha White and John Jones lived as near neighbors in the Old Lynnville - Buford Station area seperated by only 20 other households.
Allen White was born on 6 March 1823, one of nineteen children whose parents were Elisha White and Jane Walker. When Allen was eleven weeks old, John Jones, the grandfather of yet-to-be born, Euziede Celeste Jones (Allen's future wife), died and was buried in the Hopewell Cemetery. Undoubtedly, Alexander S. Jones, Euziede's father-to-be, attended the services of his father. Perhaps, Elisha and Jane White with baby Allen in tow were also participants.
In 1844, age 21, Allen was named as executor of his father's will along with his brother William. The will listed him as trustee for his sister Susan Woldridge's share to pay her the proceeds as he may think she may need it. The will added that twenty-nine year old Susan's husband was not to have or use any portion of bequest. Elisha died in October.
27 February 1845, Allen married Martha Angeline Daniel.
On 28 June, Allen began the first of many land sales activities selling 4 1/8 acres to Columbia Pulaski Elkton & Alabama Turnpike for 3 "on which is now situated the tollgate house" near Lynnville. On 23 July, Allen and his brother William as executors of Elisha White deceased sold 1 8/10 acres in Lynnville adjoining the public square to Daniel Kosier for 0. Allen bought 60 acres from Newton and Catherine White (his sister) the land drawn by Catherine J. White in the division of lands belonging to the heirs of Elisha White deceased, for 0 on 25 Nov 1845. Allen was a commissioner for common schools in Giles County, District #18. Theodore Alphonso White was born to Allen and Martha White in December.
In January 1846, Martha died, perhaps due to complications resulting from the birth of Theodore.
19 January 1847, Allen, as trustee for Susan Woldridge, sold the slave Ransom age 17 to William Gilmer for 0. Allen was elected as Elder in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
10 August, Allen married Euziede Celeste Jones, daughter of Alexander S. (Sidney) Jones and Keziah Moore, grandaughter of John Jones and Rebecca Brevard. Euziede was born in Louisiana in 1826. Her father died in 1834 in that state when she was 8 years old. Where Euziede was between 1834 and 1847 is unknown. How she connected with Allen is unknown.
In 1848, Allen sold 10 2/10 acres for 0 to Allen H. Higdon on 15 November. In 1850 he sold land for his sister Susan Woldridge to Benjamin F. Smith for 25. The 1850 census showed Allen owning five slaves. His last recorded appearance in Giles County was a sale of 10 acres to Daniel Kosier for 0 on 10 Oct 1853.
Allen White moved his family from Giles County, TN probably in early 1854 to Mississippi. Research indicates that several relatives from Jones and White families had moved to that state as early as 1848, perhaps one reason for Allen and Euziede's migration in that direction.
He, first, settled in Starksville (Oktibbeha County) and joined the presbyterian church. In March 1858, he moved to Houston in Chickasaw County, transfering to the Houston Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder for 29 years and clerk of the session for 28 years.
During the Civil War, Allen served his community as a probate judge, and appears not to have participated in military service.
Received as a member in transfer from Starkville Presbyterian Church, Starkville, MS.
Note N53recording two slaves valued as 00 and 105 acres valued as 00 and one poll tax
