Biography

Thomas Green Whitt was first married to Nellie and had at least 2 daughters (Florice and Vasta) in the 1900 census when he lived next door to his father, Middleton Whitt. Nellie lived to be about 70.

Thomas G Whitt and Alice Whisenant are on the 1910 census of her parents. He is listed as Benson Whisenant's son in law. They had been married the previous year. They had at least 4 children: Jesse, Clovis, TV, and Helon. Alice lived to be about 82. Tom died about 59 yrs old in Collinwood, TN where he was married to his 3d wife Ethel. His sister, Charlsie, and her husband, Charlie Echols are living next door with their 4 yr old daughter, Arby.

On his death certificate in 1936 he is married to Ethel (b.1896) and cause of death was "frozen to death". He was buried in Collinwood, Tennessee. He was buried in McGlamery Cemetery. In the 1930 census of District 9, Wayne, Tenn there are no children listed for Thomas and Ethel. He did not live in Tennessee until 1922 at the earliest.

The 1880 census of Coxs, Etowah, Alabama shows Thomas at 3 years old with parents Midleton and Mary Whitt. He had a younger brother, James 2. Midleton's parents and Mary's mother were born in Tennessee. This might explain why Thomas went to Tennessee when he was released from jail for non-support of Alice's children.

In the 1900 census taken on June 15, Thomas Green Whitt and family are the entry below Middleton's family. He is living with his first wife, Nellie b. Oct 1880, and his 2 daughters: Florice b. Sept 1897 and Vasta b. March 1900. They were married in 1897 (I guess in Jan since Florice was born in Sept.)
