William died intestate, leaving a large estate that was inventoried on 20 Nov 1865. The total value of his real estate was appriased at $6,000 and his perishables sold for $4,313.20[2]

"Will be sold, before the Court House door, in Gibson, Glascock county, Ga., on the FIRST TUESDAY in DECEMBER next, within the legal hours of sale --
Seven hundred and eighteen (718) acres PINE LAND, lying in said county, on the waters of Ogeechee river, adjoining lands of Geo. W. Allen, Larkin Wilcher, John McCoy and others. Said lands will be sold in lots to suit purchasers. Sold by virtue of an order of the Court of Ordinary, as the property of William G. Wilcher, late of said county, deceased, for the benefit of the heirs at law; said lands being the dower of the widow of said deceased, and will be sold subject to her lifetime oposession.
