Biography

Sarah (Wilkins) Davis was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.

Sarah was born in July 28 1780 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to parents, William Wilkins and Elizabeth Amelia 'Millie' Terrell aka Wilkins. Sarah was one of eight children born to the Wilkins.

At the age of 29 on July 10 1809, Sarah married Joseph Lafayette Davis, the widower of her cousin, Nancy Terrell Davis. Joseph and Nancy had 5 children during their marriage that would be step children to Sarah. It is believed that Nancy died giving birth to the 5th child since she died in 1808 when Mary was born.

Sarah and Joseph continued the family adding five more children to the household. They were: Thomas Jefferson Davis b Aug 11 1810; Eliza Wilkins Davis b Sept 23 1813; Susan Elvira Davis b 1814; Louise b 1818; and Joseph H b 1820.

Joseph and Sarah settled in Jackson County, Georgia to raise their family. In 1809 when they married, Joseph had 4 tracts of land: 2 in Jackson County and 2 in Wilkinson County.

Joseph dated his will April 12 of 1852 and passed May 1 1852. His will was probated June 12 1852 by his sons, Thomas Jefferson Davis and Joseph H Davis. He is buried at Davis Cemetery in Jefferson, Jackson, Georgia. His wife, Sarah, died 14 years later on Mar 13 1866.

Wilkins-6350 and Wilkins-6348 appear to represent the same person because: Obvious duplication of same person with same parents and spouse. Corrections can be made during merge process. If no sourcing can be found for middle name, go ahead and remove it. Source for correct dob for typo on birth year.
