Francine Everett was an American actor and singer, dubbed "the most beautiful woman in Harlem". Best known for her acting in "race films", she appeared in more than 50 short musical films that featured the most renowned jazz and popular musicians of the 1940s.[1]

Frances Boyd Williamson was born on April 13, 1915 in Louisburg, Franklin County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of John Williamson and Lizzie Dent.[2]

As Frances Williams her first marriage was to Booker T. Everett on January 13, 1934 in New York City and she was widowed in 1935.[4]

Her second husband was fellow actor Rex Ingram. They married sometime about 1936 and contrary to what is stated in Wikipedia and some online stories, they were still together as of the 1940 Census and living in New York City:

After retiring from motion pictures in 1950 after her last film No Way Out, she worked in the clerical department of the Harlem Hospital for many years.

In the 1987 and 1993 US Public Records Indexes, she was listing herself as Franciene Boyd Everette and lived at 779 Riverside Drive in New York City.[8]

Francine died at the age of 84 on May 27, 1999 at a nursing home in The Bronx, New York City, New York. She was cremated and her ashes were given to her aunt Lucy Williams according to her FindAGrave memorial.[9]

Research Notes

  • Although Francine gave her date of birth as April 13, 1921, her birth record confirms that it was actually April 13, 1915.
  • No 1920 Census listing has been located for her via Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org ... so far.
  • Even though a marriage that lasted a few days is shown for Frances to Floyd Henry Morman, no record supporting this has yet been located.
