Biography

The son of Miles Winchell and Lucy (Hollister) Winchell, James was born in New Britain. Connecticut, United States in 1806.^[1] James, along with his older brother, Albert Winchell-880, migrated south to Georgia. Albert settled in Putnam County and James settled in Walker County. James married Sabrina Jackson Jackson-46309 (1811-1860), the daughter of Churchwell Jackson and Mary Ferguson, marrying in Upson County, Georgia on December 21, 1828.^{[2] [3]}Their children included:

Sometime before January 1, 1838, he received a land patent in the Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832. James' residence was listed as "Tuggles", in Meriwether County.^[4] In 1850, they farmed in Walker County, Georgia, next to Sabrina's younger brother, Thaddeus Jackson, and his family

Nothing is known of his passing or burial.
