Sally Winslow was born on 27 Aug 1781[1] at East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. She was the daughter of Job Winslow, a shipwright, and his 2nd wife, Mary Rogers.
She had seven siblings, as well as seven half-siblings, four whom died young, from her father's 1st marriage to Temperance Hayden.[2][3]
Sally appears never to have married, first living with her parents, then possibly with the family of either her brother John or David.
In his 1804 will, her father lovingly wrote of his unmarried daughter: "I do also give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally one hundred dollars if she should marry and to be then paid, but if she should remain single, then her brothers John and David to give her a comfortable support through life at their joint expense she to live with which of them she pleases."[2]
Death
Sally died on 1 Feb 1837, according to David P. Holton's Winslow Memorial. Family Records of the Winslows and Their Descendants in America, Vol. 2 (1877),[3] presumably in New Lebanon (Canaan), Columbia County, New York, where her family had moved.[4]
Research Notes
Canaan became New Lebanon in 1818
Many genealogies record that Sally's family lived in New Lebanon, Columbia County, New York. However, at that time, records identify the location as the town of Canaan, Columbia County. The town of New Lebanon was formed from Canaan in 1818.[5]
