Biography

Magna Carta Surety Baron Robert FitzWalter was one of the twenty-five medieval barons who were surety for Magna Carta in 1215. Note: per the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons {www.magnacharta.org}, Robert FitzWalter was the leader of the Magna Charta Barons and their Army, styled "Marshal of the Army of God and the Holy Church."

Name Discrepancy

Some sources and people claim his name as Clayton Wilson, while others claim Wilson Clayton. He signed and filled out his wife's Death Certificate, and used Wilson Wise. I have been told that he had such a disdain for his father, that he refused to use Wilson as a first name and instead went by Clayton. This was told to me by his son WC, "he had bad feelings towards his father, as did his brothers, because he had 'taken up with' a black woman." "He and his two brothers went to live with their grandmother, Lucinda." This is corroborated by a Federal Census of Marion County, South Carolina; where he and his brothers are found in the home of Lucinda, with Clayton as head of household, living next door to their father and a woman listed as 'Housekeeper'. - Ken Wise

Note

It is becoming apparent, that Lucinda Owens may not have been the biological grandmother of Wilson, and therefore not the mother of his father Wilson. The grandfather, James Christopher Wise, was married multiple times.

Clayton wilson Wise was born on 14 Nov 1883.

He passed away in 1974. ^[8] He is buried in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton, North Carolina. His death notice in the Charlotte Observer read:

Clayton Wilson Wise, 90, died Monday. Funeral 4 p.m. today at East Lumberton Baptist Church.

Survivors: sons, James W. Wise of Pinehurst, George C. Wise of Fairmont Albert Wise of Fayetteville W.C. Wise of Oden, Ind.; daughters, Mrs Beatrice Baxley, Mrs. Louise Suries, both of Lumberton. ^[9]
