Biography

Ebenezer was born in 1762. He was the son of Oliver Woods and Sarah Unknown. He passed away in 1838.

Ebenezer Woods and his sister Jane married siblings who were children of William and Mary (Hardy) Hunt.

Mary Hunt and Ebenezer Woods were in Dunstable where the births of their children are recorded and were later in Lowell, Vermont where they were first settlers when the town organized. Ebenezer was selected as town treasurer in 1807 and served as surveyor. He was deacon of the church. Ebenezer’s brother Benjamin Woods also settled in Lowell.[1]

On 27 January 1812, Ebenezer Woods of Kellyvale, Orleans County, in consideration of seven hundred dollars, conveyed to Ebenezer Woods of Merrimack, New Hampshire a parcel of land in Kellyvale in the southeast corner of lot number fourteen in the eleventh range being all of lot fourteen excepting 52 acres. On 1 May 1812, Ebenezer and Ebenezer, Jr. then both of Kellyvale mortgaged a portion of this lot to Andrew Craigie of Cambridge, Massachusetts for four hundred and eighty-five dollars. On 26 January 1812, Ebenezer conveyed property in Kellyvale to Benjamin Woods and Benjamin Woods, Jr. of Kellyvale (likely his brother and nephew). On 20 May 1812, Ebenezer Woods and his son Ebenezer Woods, Jr. entered into a lease agreement in which Ebenezer the elder would have use of one-half the farm which they both occupied during the term of his natural life.[2]

As Ebenezer and his son Ebenezer occupied the same homestead, in 1820 the household of Ebenezer Woods was ten persons at Kellyvale: one male 45 and over, one female 45 and over, one male 26 to 44, one female 26 to 44, four males under 10, one female under 10, and one female 10 to 15.[3]
