Biography

Ann Woodyer was born in about 1860 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John Woodyer and Alice (Lofthouse) Woodyer. Her birth was registered in the first quarter of 1860, in Prescot district.

By April 7th 1861, the family were living in Dam Row, Sutton. Annie's father was employed as an engine fitter. Annie was the youngest of four children.

By April 2nd 1871, they had moved to Eccleston. Annie was eleven and still in school. Three more children had been born, all boys. Her father was still working as an engine fitter.

By April 3rd 1881, the family was living in Lowe Street, Windle. One more younger sister had been born, Alice, who was now nine. Annie was not in paid employment - she was probably helping her mother run the household. They had two boarders, Jane Lofthouse and John Morris.

Annie married their boarder John Morris on 20 Aug 1883 at St Mary Lowe House Church in St Helens, Lancashire (Catholic).

Their son Thomas Morris was born in about 1885 in St Helens.

Their daughter Annie Morris was born in about 1889 in St Helens.

By April 5th 1891, John and Annie and their children were living at 85 Frederick Street, Windle. John was employed as a house painter.

Their daughter Mary Ellen Morris was born in about 1892 in St Helens.

Their daughter Catherine Morris was born in about 1897 in Blackburn, Lancashire.

By March 31st 1901, they were living in Blackburn, and John was working there as a house painter.

Their son Thomas married Jane Ellen Jacques in 1906, in a registrar-attended ceremony in Blackburn district.

John died in 1910 in Blackburn, aged 50.

By April 2nd 1911, Annie was living in Blackburn, and heading up a household of five women - her daughter-in-law Jane Ellen, and Annie's three daughters Annie, Mary Ellen and Catherine. All four younger women were employed as cotton weavers.
