William Woodyer was born in about 1806 in Pendleton, Lancashire. He was christened on 16 Mar 1806 at St Thomas' Church in Pendleton. He was the son of William and Betty Woodier. The family's address was given as Pendleton, and his father's occupation as farmer.

Their youngest daughter Ellen died in 1855, aged 9; she was buried on 15 Jun 1855 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston, Lancashire. The family's address was given as Eccleston.
William's wife died that November, aged 48. She was buried on 14 Nov 1855 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston. The family's address was given as Eccleston.
William married Elizabeth Harrison on 11 Jan 1857 at St Mary the Virgin Church in Prescot, Lancashire. Both were widowed and living in Eccleston; William was a labourer. Their fathers were named as William Woodyer (tanner) and William Harrison (shoemaker). The witnesses were Richard Blake and Winney Blake. Elizabeth's middle name was given in the marriage record as Ann, but in the 1861 census she is listed as Elizabeth Alice.
By April 7th 1861, Will and Elizabeth were living in Sutton. No children from either previous marriage was living with them. Will was employed as a glass works fireman.
William died in 1871, aged 65. He was buried on 10 Jan 1871 at St Thomas' Church in Eccleston. His address was given as Sutton.
