Edwin Wright was born on the 26th December in Sale Green, Worcestershire and christened on the 14th of January 1872 in Crowle.
Ted Wright met Margaret Willis when his parents were share milking on a farm across the road in Rowan, Taranaki. Though the Wrights moved into Stratford, Ted and Maggie’s romance blossomed. They were married in the Registry Office at Stratford on the 2nd October 1905.
Ted Wright became a Justice of the Peace at a very young age. In 1897 he was already a very active member of the Rowan community as Secretary of the Rowan School committee. He took part in concerts and was vocal in support of local farmers thinking of joining in with the Kaponga Co-Op Dairy Company. As Chairman of the Rowan School Committee in 1901, Ted was Judge at School Sports day and a year later was Chairman of the newly established Rowan Branch of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union.
