Mary may have been born in 1858 in Broughshane, County Antrim, Ireland. Her parents were William Wylie and Margaret (Miller) Wylie.[1]
Mary probably immigrated to the United States in 1870 (see Research Notes).
Mary married William Montgomery October 11, 1877 in Kankakee, Illinois, United States[2]
and they had at least nine children (see Research Notes)
In 1900, William (age 48) and Mary (age 39) lived in Logan, Washington, Kansas, United States with children Walter (age 22), Maggie (age 20), Grover (age 15), William (age 12), Clifton (age 8), Lena (age 6), and Gordon (age 3). William and Walter were farmers.[3]
In 1910, William (shown as Will, age 57) and Mary (age 53) lived in Smithton, Pettis, Missouri, United States with children William (shown as Will, age 22), Clifton (age 18), Lena (age 15), Gordon (age 12), and Hazel (age 7). A hired hand Roy Short (age 17) also lived with the family. William was a farmer, his son William was a public school teacher, and Roy was a farm laborer.[4]
In 1920, William (age 67), Mary (age 59), and children Lena (age 25) and Hazel (shown as Hazle, age 17) lived in Smithton, Pettis, Missouri, United States in the home of their son Clifton (age 28) and his wife Bertha (age 23). Clifton was a farmer and Lena was a public school teacher.[5]
In 1930, William (age 77) and Mary (age 70) lived in Smithton, Pettis, Missouri, United States.[6]
In 1940, William (age 87) and Mary (age 80) lived in Smithton, Pettis, Missouri, United States.[7]
Mary died April 7, 1943 at the home of her daughter Hazel McDonald in Emporia, Lyon, Kansas, United States. She was buried in section 2 of the Smithton Cemetery in Smithton, Pettis, Missouri, United States. Her obituary was published April 7, 1943 in the Sedalia Democrat.[8]
