Thomas, a farmer, was born 9 Jul 1832 at Vermillion County, Illinois[1] the son of Elijah and Hannah (Stanfield) Yeager. His parents are found in Vermillion County, Illinois in the 1830 US Census.[2]
He married Mary E Reser of Dallas County, Missouri at Dallas County on 18 Jun 1857[1] with whom he had seven children, one of whom predeceased Thomas. In December 1863 when he registered for the US Civil War draft he lived in Miller Township, Dallas, Missouri.[3] How Thomas came to serve in the 18th Iowa Infantry Regiment during the United States Civil War is uncertain.[4][5] Following the war, the family lived in Lincoln Township of Dallas County, Missouri[6][7] until moving to Seward County, Kansas settling near Arkalon, Kansas about 1886.
Thomas passed away 7 May 1899 at Arkalon, Kansas after a long struggle with "catarrh of the stomach."[1] He is interred at the Grand Army of the Republic circle monument at the Liberal Cemetery, Liberal, Kansas.[8]
