Biography

Samuel Zipperer served in the United States Civil War.

PS Zipperer was born on April 5, 1835.[1]

Phanuel Samuel Zipperer was married on 15 Oct 1856 by the Reverend George Haltiwanger to Mary Camila Helmey, the daughter of Mary Ann (Hinely) and David Helmey, Jr. (All courthouse records and others she is listed as Mary C. Helmey, but her gravestone has Camila C Zipperer.)[1] He died on April 15, 1890.[1] He is buried at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Effingham Co, Georgia.[1]

PS Zipperer and Mary Camila had 11 children, 4 boys and 7 boys.[1] There was an infant boy, born/died on September 9, 1874.[2]

In the 1850 census, the family is indexed as Leppner.
* The 21st Cavalry Battalion [also called White's Partisans] was organized during the summer of 1862. Attached to the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, the unit served along the Georgia coast until the spring of 1864. It then merged into the 7th Georgia Cavalry Regiment. Major William P. White was in command.[3]
* 7th Georgia Cavalry: More appropriately named, the "7th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry" was formed by the consolidation of the 24th Battalion Georgia Cavalry, four companies of the 21st Battalion Georgia Cavalry and the two companies of the Hardwick Mounted Rifles by S. O. No. 37, A. & I. G. O., dated Feb. 13, 1864.[4]
