Notes on his wife's family - Hirzel was a prominent family of Zurich, Switzerland. Nickolaus Hirzel (1404-1446) was one of the eight Hirzels to have served as burgermeister (mayor) of Zurich over the centuries. (The "z" in Hirzelhas the Swiss pronuciation of "tz" and when some of the family moved to the Palatinate in Germany, they changed the spelling to Hirtzel.)^[1]

Note: He was a Lutheran and a farrier in Kirchardt and, later, Babstadt, Germany. He and Katharina had three (perhaps seven?) seven children by first marriage, one by second.^[2][3]

“Johann Lofenius Zirckel a Lutheren citizen and smith (farrier), settled in Kirchardt, then in Babstadt, where he died. He had emigrated after the Thirty Years War 1618-48 into this depopulated county in the Territory of the Lutheran Knights of the Kraichgau in the Palatinate. His wife Catherine Hirtzel was born in Switzerland, in the village Aublikon (parish Pfeffikon), the daughter of Hans Heinrich Hirtzel and his wife Maria Steiner
