Hello I'm a kirkland from Georgia I have ancestry on both my mother & father's side kirkland & mcleighton I haven't done a DNA test yet but one of my ancestry grandfathers came to America as a stow away on a boat from Scotland he was the only one & he was only 18 his surename was mcleighton I wonder what happened to the rest of the family & why he was the only one on the boat

Hi Emily, I have a Kirkland line up my paternal grandmother's side.  They were in all of the southeastern U.S. states.  I head up the Kirkland One-Name Study here at Wikitree.  If you decide to become a regular member of Wikitree, I hope that you'll add your family members to connect into the Wikitree and see if your Kirklands are related to mine.
