Which DNA test have you taken?

If you've taken a DNA test for genealogy, please list it here: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:DNA#List_of_DNA_tests

This is important because we're starting work on a system that will allow you to indicate which DNA test you have taken and then automatically attach the fact that you have taken the test to WikiTree profiles where that test would be relevant.

For example, if you're a male WikiTree member who has taken a yDNA test, a notation will be made to your father's profile, your paternal grandfather's profile, his father's profile, etc., all the way up your direct male line, plus all your paternal grandfather's sons, and your father's brothers, etc., all the way down the direct male lines.

This will enable all kinds of cool things. You'll be able to see when genealogical conclusions can be proven or disproven by comparing results or taking a test.

Note that we won't be storing or comparing actual tests on WikiTree. We'll just be storing which tests members have taken.

If this topic interests you, please join the DNA and Wiki Genealogy Project. We are going to need lots of help as this develops.

Thanks!

Im a novice in this group.  Please tell me how to join the project.  It sounds awesome!

Hi Robin. That's great! I saw your note in the other thread. Kitty Smith is the new Project Leader for http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:DNA -- I'll make sure she sees this and gets in contact with you.

Hi Robin,

Welcome to our Project!  I have awarded you the DNA Project badge.  We hope you will add you DNA test(s) to your DNA tab on your profile.  Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you.  Kitty Cooper Smith
How do I know which ANCESTRY DNA test I've taken?  I want to upload my data but there are 3-4 different Ancestry tests listed on the upload page.  Thx..
Hi Joseph. You should login to your Ancestry account and see if you can find the test information. It must be there, though I'm not sure where.

It says its an 'autosomal' tests, which I -think- matches the auDNA field in the upload.  http://ldna.ancestry.com/atFAQ.aspx

That's right -- autosomal is auDNA.
Tested with FTDNA (Comprehensive Genome - FMS mtDNA and 67 marker Y-DNA + FF, and member of a number of surname, region, and haplogroup projects), Geno 2.0 (with free transfer to FTDNA for improved results on FTDNA), AncestryDNA (autosomal only, but considering mtDNA and Y-DNA down the road), 23andme, and DNA-me (waiting on results). Plan on testing with DNA Tribes or having the results transferred from one of the others to DNA Tribes.

Hit a brick wall with my Smith line in NC.
Hi Paul, Are you a member of SmithConnections NE on FTDNA?  We have a few NC descendants of New England ancestors, as some families moved west but others moved south.  I would like to help with that brick wall.
Hello Kitty, No I wasn't, but joined a few minutes ago. Wasn't sure if I had NE connection. Doesn't help when a grandfather is John Smith from NC. I have very little information from my Dad's side of the family.

FTDNA kit # is 285280 Y-DNA is P58/J1c3 on FTDNA with YSC234 on Geno 2.0. Did the YSearch and GEDMatch route.
I have take the AncestryDNA test and just did a transfer to FTDNA however I am having problems uploading my data file to them.  It errors out after the upload.  I have sent email to them concerning it.

I really like the idea of a complete line of "DNA tested descendant" notations (from a radio button on the main edit profile area) and also a notation for EKA (Earliest Known Ancestor, also by radio button), but I am not sure it needs to be more specific than that.  If you want to get more specific, I would suggest separate radio buttons for yDNA test, mtDNA test and auDNA test.  Click and done.

I have members in SmithConnections.com that have tested with Ancestry and transfered their results to FamilyTreeDNA (One test in two companies with separate kit numbers.)  I have many, many tests that are members of multiple DNA Projects (i.e. a surname project and multiple geographic projects.)  The details of their tests should go in the Sources field, perhaps, but I would leave that up to the profile editor to add what information they want to include.

Great idea!  I have done the Y-DNA test (12, 33, and 67 markers) on Family Tree DNA.  My biggest complaint with FTDNA is that it offers very limited access to the genealogical records of your matches.  This project could go a long way in addressing this limitation.  Let me know if you need any assistance with this.  I have already added my username under FTDNA Y-DNA in the other entry that you posted earlier.
