Question regarding use of Quebec or Nouvelle france etc.

Hi,

I'm trying to be correct in my locations but am confused as to when it is appropriate to use quebec or nouvelle france. It appears according to wikipedia that quebec, trois-rivieres and montreal appeared around 1608, 1634 and 1642 respectively. But quebec wasn't a province until 1763.  Seeing as I'm not from quebec personally and am unfamiliar with the geography. I'm having a hard time with the correct location.

Finally got around to looking at the guidelines in depth, and I've started looking in my tree, and anyone's for some correcting. There's plenty enough. :)

Go with what the research is telling you. Look at it this way. Montreal was formed in 1642. The province didn't come into existence until 1763. Canada didn't become a country until 1867. They are celebrating their 150 birthday this year.
