Biography

"Danell Bruster" or "Danell Brewster", son of Benjamin Brewster and Ann Addis, was born March 1, 1666/7, in Norwich, Connecticut. [1] [2][3][4]

Daniel Brewster married Hannah Gager on 23 Dec 1686, in Preston, Connecticut.[1][5] Hannah, born in Norwich Feb 1666, was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Gore) Gager. She died in Preston 25 Sep 1727 and was buried in the Avery Cemetery.[1]

Before she died, Hannah's father wrote his will 21 Dec 1695, which was proved 9 Jan 1703/4. He named his wife Elizabeth and son Samuel and also "my six sons that married my daughters" including Daniell Bruster.

Daniel, married second, Dorothy Witter, Dec. 19, 1727, in Preston, Connecticut. [5] Dorothy, born in Preston 29 Feb 1675/6, was the daughter of Lt. Joseph and Dorothy (Parke) Morgan. Dorothy's firs husband was Ebenezer Witter, who died 31 Jan 1711/2. She died in Preston 9 Mar 1759.[1]

When the inventory of Joseph Morgan was taken, Dorothy age 28 was mentioned in the accounting. A record dated 17 Apr 1705 mentioned that the administrators gave to Ebenezer Witter part of the portion of his wife Dorothy.[1]

Daniel's brother, Jonathan, died intestate. Jonathan's widow, Daniel (her brother-in-law) and Capt Benjamin Brewster (brother-in-law.) posted bond 6 June 1706.[1]

Daniel's father, Benjamin Brewster of Norwich, made his will 28 June 1709, proved 14 Nov 1710. He mentioned a deed of gift to his son Daniel and appointed Daniel as one of the executors. Daniel was called Lietenant on his oath to the inventory.[1]

Capt. Daniel Brewster obtained a quitclaim from Matthew Coy of Preston (husband of Daniel's sister Ann). The parcel of land was one seventh part of sixty acres of Common land that had belonged to Capt. Benjamin Brewster, their father and father-in-law. Matthew and Ann signed the deed.[1]

When Preston was forming Daniel signed the petition to secure organization of Preston as a town. He was justice of the Peace, 1717, 1720, 1723, 1725 and 1728.[1]

Daniel served as Representative to the General Court of Connecticut 1704-19, 1721-23, 1725-31. He was Lt. of the military company at Preston, 1704 and Captain in 1716.[2][1][6]

He was appointed lieutenant of the local militia in 1704 and captain in 1716.[1]

Mrs. Brewster, wife of Daniel, "adjoined" by renewal of her covenant" the church at Preston. She was a full member in communion in 1699. Daniel became a member 5 April 1702 and was later named a deacon.[1]

Daniel died May 7, 1735, in Preston, Connecticut.[5]

Capt. Daniel Brewster of Preston, yeoman made his will 10 Mar 1732/3. It was proved 19 May 1735. After a preamble giving his soul to God and his body to a Christian burial, he named his second wife Dorothy referrring to her "I have lately married Dorothy Witter, Widow and Relict of Ebenezer Witter," leaving her the use of the bonds he had and £100 of movable estate and those things she brought with her, and the use of a house. His two single daughters are also given use of the house while they remain single. He also named sons Daniel, John, Jonathan and Ebenezer, leaving them his farm and specifying how it should be divided. He made monetary provisions for daughters Hannah and Ruth , and daughters Mary and Bethiah. He named "My Loving sone Namely Danield Brewster and John Brewster and Joseph Freeman" as executors.[1][7] A six page inventory (not totaled) was taken 19 May 1735. The real estate was valued about £4000, and bonds and notes worth £1200. He had animals, farm implements, books and more than 20 chairs.
