Biography

John Tuttle immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

John Tuttle, eldest son of William and Elizabeth Tuttle, was born about 1631.[1]

Christening

Date: 8 Dec 1631, Ringstead, Northants - "John sonne of William Tootell was baptised Decem. 8th 1631."[2]

6 April 1635, enrolled at London as passengers for New England aboard the Planter were Husbandman Willm Tuttell..26; Elizabeth Tuttell..23; Jo: Tuttell..3 1/2; Ann Tuttell..2 a qr; Tho: Tuttell..3. mo:[3]

John had a house and lot in East Haven given to him by his father in 1661, which he sold, the next year to John Potter, the blacksmith. He also had land at Stony River which he sold to the Widow of William Ludington. Nov. 23, 1662, John Tuttle asked the New Haven Court if he could purchase some land of the Indians beyond Chestnut Hill.[4]

He married 8 Nov 1653 in New Haven Colony, Katharine Lane, daughter of John[1] of Milford[4]

John Tuttle died 12 Nov 1683.[1] His inventory was taken on 12 November 1683 in New Haven and was valued at £79.[5] His sons John and Samuel were administrators, the other children, to receive their parts when they came of age.[4]
