- New Garden Friends Meeting: New Garden Friends Meeting traces its roots to 1754 when Quaker settlers in the area established a regular gathering for worship. Prior to forming New Garden Meeting, Friends in this community had to travel many miles to attend First Day worship at Cane Creek Friends or other Meetings to the east.
"...About 1711, several families of Friends from Ireland, principally from the Province of Leinster, with a few from the Province of Ulster, arrived and, presenting their certificates of removal to Newark Monthly Meeting, settles in that part of the Manor which lay north of the circular line, giving to their new home the name of New Garden in rememberance of New Garden Meeting, in County Carlow, Ireland."
Early meetings of New Garden Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania were held John Miller's home starting in 1713. Early trustees included Simon Hadley, James Starr, Thomas Jackson, and Michael Lightfoot. In 1715, the members built log meeting house.
During the 1750's about forty families from New Garden moved to Guilford County, North Carolina and took the New Garden name with them.
