Biography

I was born in Janolma Private hospital at Greenslopes Brisbane when my parents were living at "The Nook", Norman Park. I am the youngest of six and we moved later that year to a farm at Mains Road, Sunnybank. We were there for three and a half years until early February 1955. Terry had done one week at Runcorn State School and my birthday was about a week after we moved to Clayfield. I went to Eagle Junction State School and Brisbane Grammar School and left home when I got a job at AMP in 1971. Mary and I were married in 1976 and we lived at Union College until 1979 when Emily was born. James was born while we were living on a farm at Samford and I was doing my Dip T. at Carseldine NBCAE. I started teaching in 1981 and Matt was born in 1982. Erica was born in 1984 after we bought our first house at Stafford. We moved to Toowoomba in 1987 and Warwick at the end of 1988. We bought the farm at Stanthorpe in 2002 and started moving with Education Queensland in 2005. Mary did her degree in teaching and I started a Masters in Ed in 2007 at Murgon. I became a Guidance Officer in 2008 at Roma. Since then we have lived in Charleville, Stanthorpe, Brisbane and back to Charleville in 2017.

Hi cousin!

I am also a descendant of Catherine Butler and John Tooth, through Robert Tooth, then Frederick Tooth, then Caroline Tooth Dodgson. Loved reading about your mother and grandmother, strong and fierce, as was Caroline. Stories like those make me believe that we can figure out how to survive the awful weather that is being thrown at us. I am currently living in Puerto Rico, where every day now is a hurricane watch. Best wishes to you and yours, Susanna J Dodgson

Hi Susanna!

Lovely to hear from you! Puerto Rico would have to be a Paradise when outside the hurricane season. We have similar weather in February in Queensland. I don't have any of the descendants of Frederick Tooth and Jane Jackson in my database. It would be wonderful if you could send me a Gedcom by private message. Is that possible? How long did they live in Sydney? Has anyone written their story? I've been diagnosed with terminal cancer so I don't know how long I've got and I'm working as fast as I can to get some things completed. I haven't done much on Wikitree for a few years and have forgotten how to navigate around. Fond Regards John Anderssen

Figuring out how to do that. I have a lot of Tooth stories, the most famous was Sir Robert Lucas Tooth who was both 1st cousin and brother in law of my great grandmother. His 3 sons all died in 1914-1918 war, as did 2 other Tooth first cousins of my grandfather Hubert Dodgson. Time is of the essence, my email is [email address removed] are you interested in a book? I just send out a weekly newsletter currently, I was born the same year as you and I had a diagnosis last year. Be a pity for all these stories to vanish, I calculated that by 1945, half of Australian population was in some way related to the first Tooth. Before massive post war migration. Gedcom, I did that a few years ago. Not sure how to get it to you, but happy to do so. Much Light, Susanna

Hi,

I seem to have a number of common Haig ancestors (Haig-264, 259, 260 etc) Would you be interested in collaborating on these as I seem to have a little more information than what is in the current bios? Take care Lucy

Hi Lucy, Thanks for your contact. I'm happy to work with you. Its been a few years since I did anything on Wikitree so you might have to remind me how to navigate around!

Hi John,

Congratulations on being Pre-1700 certified! Based on your ancestors, it looks like you’re going to be working on profiles that fall under several Projects. I'm here to help you find one that best fits your needs.

Start by thinking about the particular time periods, locations, and topics in which you're interested. Do you have some historically-significant ancestors? Take a look at the list of active projects for examples of what we have going on.

If you see one that's just right, go ahead and join. Otherwise, let me know what you're looking for and I'll see what I can find.

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

If you have questions, just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions as that is the only way we gain knowledge!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS Good work so far! Have you noticed on your ancestor profiles on the bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!

John

Hi Thanks for joining us!

Welcome to this wonderful site !

I'm a member of the Mentor project, and I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have after reading How to Start Climbing Our Tree If you have any relevant questions, please feel free to ask!

Regards Ronel

John, you are now a confirmed member of WikiTree. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree. Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

Our G2G forum is a great way to get to know our community! Join the fun with our Question of the Week: How do you use census data?

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Thanks for becoming part of our shared WikiTree!

Hi and welcome to WikiTree!

WikiTree is different from other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person. That means we will all share ancestors and work together as a collaborative team! The Honor Code helps keep everything functioning smoothly as we work on our SHARED tree.

You should have received an email with links you can use to get started. Once you confirm your email address, you'll have an option to volunteer to add information to WikiTree. Begin with tags for your own profile. Tags are surnames, locations, concepts, etc. in which you're interested.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add to the tree!

We're really glad you're here!
