Baeldaeg Asgard Waegdaeg was a member of aristocracy in ancient Europe. Join: Medieval Project Discuss: medieval
Research suggests that this person may never have existed. See the text for details.
Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORWEGIAN%20NOBILITY.htm

Baeldaeg was the mythological son of Wōđanaz or Wōđinaz, which is the reconstructed Proto-Germanic name of a god of Germanic paganism, known as Odin in Norse mythology, Woden in Old English, Wodan or Wotan in Old High German and Godan in Lombardic.
According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and the Historia Britonum, Woden had the sons Wecta, Baeldaeg, Casere and Wihtlaeg, who in turn were ancestors of the royal houses of the Heptarchy.

The gods, thinking Balder safe, cast darts and stones at him. The malicious giant Loki put a twig ofmistletoe in the hands of Balder's twin, the blind Hoder, god ofdarkness, and directed his aim against Balder, who fell pierced to theheart. After the death of Balder, Odin sent another son, the messengerHermod, to the underworld to plead for Balder's return. The god would bereleased only if everything in the world would weep for him. !RESEARCH NOTE: 1. Beldeg's mother's name is not given, though it is likely one of the first three wives of Odin listed above.
