Peggy,

I appreciate your reply. I first started as a Guest and recently i entered several of my relatives. The next time i checked in it listed me as a Family member. However, my tree contains only myself. Today i started over by entering my Father's information. When i got to the requirement for a source, i went to my primary platform FTM for that info. When i attempted to return to the WikiTree form it had disappeared. I guess my question is, must i enter all my information one person at a time, or can i bring in an existing tree via GEDCOM? This platform does not seem "user friendly" at all C.D.

Hi again,

Yes, you will be able to use your research from another site by exporting a GEDcom file.

There is a limit of 5000 names with the GEDCOM. If your tree is large you may want to split it into smaller trees to make the task more manageable. Here is some info on splitting a tree.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting all of the suggested matches, once you have done this any remaining names can be added with the add button.

Once uploaded, you will be able to find your GEDcom reports under the ‘My Wikitree’ drop-down menu at the top of the page. Click on the menu then choose GEDcoms or use this link: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:UploadGedcom

There is a tool that can help with cleaning up GEDCOM created biographies. It lets you concentrate on the genealogy rather than the formatting. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions about the GEDcom process or anything else about how WikiTree works.
